The village
of Occi
The ruins of Occi
Perched on the heights, the ruins of Occi testify to a bygone past, where this village, now abandoned, once teemed with life of its inhabitants. Attached to the municipality of Lumio in 1852, Occi saw its last breath extinguished in 1927 with the death of its final resident. Despite its abandonment, the village still bears traces of its history, especially through the Church of the Annunziata. This sacred building, which has recently been restored, proudly stands among the remnants, reminding of the importance of faith and community for the former inhabitants of Occi.
The geographical location of Occi, nestled on a rocky outcrop, offers an exceptional viewpoint of the surroundings. Dominating the plain of Fiume Seccu, the town of Calvi and its gulf, the site of Occi becomes a natural observatory offering breathtaking panoramas. Visitors are invited to take a walk of about 30 minutes to reach this historically rich place. Once there, they are rewarded with a stunning natural spectacle: sunsets seen from Occi are truly magical. The golden light of the setting sun envelops the landscape, creating plays of light and shadows that enhance the beauty of Corsica.
This journey through time, in the heart of the ruins of Occi, not only offers a history lesson but also a unique sensory experience. The effort of the ascent is quickly forgotten in front of the immensity of the landscape that unfolds before visitors' eyes. Every evening, the sky is adorned with its most beautiful colors to offer an unforgettable spectacle, making the ruins of Occi a place of contemplation and inner peace.
