Avapessa
Village of Balagne
Nestled on a mountainside but close to the sea(Calvi and Île-Rousse are just a few kilometers away), the pretty little village ofAvapessa enjoys an exceptional geographical location. And that's far from being its only asset...
The history
While it's difficult to trace the exact origins of the village, we can say that Avapessa enjoyed considerable success in the 19th century, when agriculture played an important role in Corsica. With the general decline of this activity, the village logically lost population... until a policy of modernization was decided in the early 1970s. Since then, the population has grown steadily, attracted by the quality of the surroundings.
The village
Situated in the middle of a vast olive grove on the magnificent Régino plain, Avapessa hides a few wonders... Its modern mill, for example, is a thing of beauty... but it's nothing compared to the incredible botanical fruit garden, home to totally unknown varieties from all over the world (North America, China, the Far East, Australia... )! A veritable Ali Baba's cave, unique in France...
