Urtaca
Village of Balagne
Located in the beautiful Ostriconi valley, close to the magnificent Agriates desert, Urtaca is a deeply relaxing and rejuvenating place.
The ideal place to let go and enjoy the benefits of nature.
Our history
Urtaca's origins date back to the Middle Ages, and more precisely to the period of the barbarian invasions. Attacked on all sides by ruthless peoples, the Corsicans took refuge in the mountains, where they built fortified villages. An ingenious and effective means of defense that paid off when the invaders left at the beginning of the 11th century. The commune later became part of the estate of the famous Marquis of Massa.
The village
Scrubland, holm oaks and olive trees, myrtle and arbutus berries (which make excellent jellies and liqueurs)... Nature is everywhere in Urtaca! And it's not uncommon to come face to face with an imposing bovine (agriculture is the village's main activity)! That's the magic of the village...
